Executive Coaching in India
Confidential one-to-one coaching for senior leaders, delivered by ICF, NLP and DISC certified coaches. Thinking space outside your organisation — in person across India, or virtually.
What Executive Coaching Actually Is
Executive coaching is a confidential, one-to-one professional relationship in which a trained coach helps a senior leader think more clearly about their own challenges. The coach doesn't supply answers or industry advice. They ask the question the leader has been avoiding — usually because the honest answer would require them to change something.
This is the part most people misunderstand. A good coach is not a more experienced version of you, dispensing wisdom. Their value is process, not experience. They are trained to help you think, surface your own assumptions, and convert insight into specific, committed action.
Bija Training has coached senior leaders across Indian industry since 2012 — CXOs, functional heads, newly promoted managers stepping into unfamiliar scope, and high-potentials being prepared for bigger roles.
What a Coaching Engagement Includes
Every engagement is shaped around the individual, but these components are standard.
Chemistry & Contracting
A no-obligation first conversation to check fit — the single biggest predictor of coaching success. Goals, boundaries and confidentiality terms are agreed in writing before any paid session.
Session Zero360° Feedback & Assessment
Structured input from managers, peers and direct reports, plus DISC behavioural profiling. Establishes an honest baseline rather than relying on self-perception alone.
DiagnosticOne-to-One Sessions
Typically 60–90 minutes, every two to four weeks. The client sets the focus each time — not the coach. Long silences are expected and useful.
The Core WorkCommitted Actions
Every session ends with a specific, small, dated commitment — never a vague intention. The next session opens by reviewing what actually happened.
AccountabilityStrict Confidentiality
Session content is never reported to the sponsoring organisation. Where an employer funds the engagement, we report only that sessions are happening — never what was said.
Non-NegotiableProgress Review
Structured checkpoints against the goals agreed at contracting, including a re-run of the 360° where the engagement is long enough to warrant it.
MeasurementCoaching or Mentoring?
These get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing. Choosing wrong is the most common reason a development initiative quietly fails.
🎯 Choose coaching when…
- The person already has the knowledge — the gap is behavioural, not informational
- They know what to do but consistently don't do it
- The honest version of their challenge involves their boss, peers or the company itself
- They're senior enough that nobody internal has a directly comparable path
- What's needed is self-awareness, presence, or decision quality under pressure
🧭 Choose mentoring when…
- The challenge has a knowable answer someone internal already holds
- They're early in a path more senior colleagues have walked successfully
- They need organisational context, political navigation, or introductions
- They don't yet know what they don't know
- Budget is tight and an internal programme would serve them well
We regularly tell prospective clients to build an internal mentoring programme first and come back to coaching for their senior team later. Recommending the wrong intervention costs us more in credibility than the engagement is worth. Read the full comparison →
Typical Coaching Clients
- The newly promoted leader. Someone excellent at the individual-contributor version of the job, now responsible for outcomes they can't personally deliver. The hardest transition in a career, and the one where coaching pays back fastest.
- The functional head widening scope. A specialist taking on functions they've never run. Coaching helps them lead credibly without pretending to expertise they don't have.
- The CXO with nobody to think with. The higher you go, the fewer people can be genuinely candid with you. Coaching restores a space where you can be uncertain out loud.
- The high-potential being prepared. Often paired with a longer leadership development programme — coaching adds the individual depth that group work can't reach.
- The leader with one specific blind spot. Strong overall, but something — how they handle conflict, how they come across under pressure — is capping their progress. Short, focused engagements work well here.
Executive Coaching Questions
What is executive coaching?
Executive coaching is a confidential, one-to-one professional relationship in which a trained coach helps a senior leader think more clearly about their own challenges. The coach does not supply answers or industry advice — they ask structured questions that surface the leader's own thinking, test assumptions, and convert insight into specific committed action. It is distinct from mentoring, where a more experienced person shares what they personally did.
How long does an executive coaching engagement last?
Our engagements run from one month to one year, depending on the goal. Short engagements of one to three months suit a specific transition such as a new role or a single behavioural goal. Meaningful, durable behaviour change typically needs six to twelve months, with sessions every two to four weeks.
Are your executive coaches certified?
Yes. Our coaches hold certifications including ICF (International Coach Federation), NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and DISC behavioural assessment accreditation. Certification matters because it means the coach has been trained and assessed against a professional standard of practice and ethics — rather than simply being an experienced manager offering opinions.
Is coaching confidential from my employer?
Yes. What is discussed in a session is never reported back to the sponsoring organisation. Where an employer funds the engagement, we report only on logistics — that sessions took place and whether the engagement is progressing — never on content. This boundary is agreed in writing with all parties before coaching begins, because without it the coaching simply cannot work.
What's the difference between coaching and mentoring?
A mentor's value is their experience: they have walked a similar path and share what they did. A coach's value is their process: they are skilled at helping you think, and rarely give direct advice. Mentoring suits early-career people navigating known terrain; coaching suits senior leaders whose challenge is behavioural rather than informational. Full comparison here.
Is coaching delivered in person or online?
Both. We coach in person at client offices across India and virtually over video. Virtual coaching is equally effective for most engagements and is often preferable for senior leaders with heavy travel schedules, since it removes the logistical friction that causes sessions to get postponed.
How much does executive coaching cost?
Coaching is priced per engagement rather than per day, because the shape varies so much — a focused three-month engagement and a twelve-month CXO journey are very different commitments. Pricing depends on engagement length, session frequency, whether 360° assessment is included, and the number of leaders being coached. Get in touch for a quote for your situation.
